Mesh Topology Advantages and Disadvantages with Diagram

The main advantages of Mesh Topology are it provides very high security and privacy, a huge amount of traffic can be handled. The main disadvantages of Mesh Topology are, it requires cables, ports in bulk, difficult and complex installation. In this article, you will find a lot of Mesh Topology Advantages and Disadvantages. You can see in the below figure, in a mesh topology,  each networking devices or computers are connected to each other. So any device can send or receive data from any device.

Advantages of Mesh Topology

1.As all the devices are connected to each other so each connection can carry only their own data load, therefore, it is very fast.

2.There is no high or over traffic problem in the mesh topology due to the point to point connection between each device.

3.In this topology, multiple devices can send or receive data simultaneously, therefore, a very high amount of traffic can be handled.

4.  The detection of fault is very easy and simple.

5.This network topology system provides very high security and privacy to the user from data stolen, hacking, etc.

6.If any one device is failed, the total system will not affect, it works properly.

7.If any one route or connection is damaged, the total system will not affect.

8.In this topology, there is no need to work all layers of the network model(OSI model or TCP/IP Model).

9.For further expansion or modification, new devices can be easily connected or added with any disruption to the existing system. The removing of any device also cannot affect the system.

10.Mesh topology is the best type of network topology for high-speed data transmission.

Disadvantages of Mesh Topology

1.As in this topology, each device is connected to each other, the requirement of cables and ports in bulk.

2.The installation of this topology is very complex and takes more time because each node is to be connected to every node.

3.The implementation or installation cost of mesh topology is higher than other topologies.

4.In this topology, the administration of the total network system is very difficult, complex and time-consuming.

5.There are very big chances of redundancy in the connections.

6.The maintenance cost of the whole system is very high than other topologies.

Mesh Topology Diagram

Here you can see the mesh topology diagram in the above figure. You can see all devices are connected to each other. Mesh Topology is classified into two types, one is Full Mesh Topology and another is Partially Mesh Topology. Generally, to reduce the redundancy, the Partially mesh topology is used.
