Bus Topology Advantages and Disadvantages with Diagram

The main advantages of Bus Topology are very less cable required, most suitable for the smaller network, moderate data speed. The main disadvantages of Bus Topology are the whole system depends on the single cable, limited length of cable. In this article, you will find a lot of  Bus Topology Advantages and Disadvantages with Diagram. Bus topology is the simplest network topology. In this topology, data can flow only in one direction. The single cable which connects all the computers or networking devices is called Backbone Cable.

Advantages of Bus Topology

1.As all the computers or networking devices are connected to a single cable or they share only one single cable, the requirement of cable is very less than other topologies.

2. As the fewer cables required and no external device is required therefore the cost of this system very less than other topologies.

3.The installation, administration process of this topology is very simple and easy.

4.The expansion or moderation of this topology is simple and easy.

5.Bus topology is the most suitable for a smaller network.

6.Generally, coaxial or twisted pair cables are used as backbone cable in the bus topology, so the data speed is up to 15 Mbps.

7.If any one device is affected, then the whole system will not be affected.

8.The troubleshooting and maintenance are simple and low cost.

9.The adding or removing of any device does not affect the total system.

10.It is the easiest method to connect computers or networking devices for communication or data transmission.

Disadvantages of Bus Topology

1.The whole system depends upon the single backbone cable as all devices are connected to it. So if there is any fault occur in the backbone cable the total system will be affected.

2.Bus Topology cannot be used for a large network.

3.The additional device such as Terminator is required at both ends of the cable to dump the signals.

4.An adding of new devices are limited that means huge no. of devices cannot be added.

5.Its performance, speed, and efficiency decrease when the number of devices connected to it increases.

6.In this topology, security and privacy are very low because all the devices are connected to a single cable and the data flow in one direction only. They all receive the data from a common source.

Bus Topology Diagram

Here you can see the diagram of Bus topology. You can see all the devices are connected to a single cable which is known as Backbone Cable.

Bus Topology Diagram

The drop lines are brought from the backbone cable to connect the networking devices or computers. The terminators are connected to both ends of the cable.
