The main advantages of Bus Topology are very little cable required, most suitable for smaller networks, and moderate data speed. The main disadvantage of Bus Topology is the whole system depends on a single cable, a limited length of cable. Advantages of Bus Topology

2. As fewer cables are required and no external device is required therefore the cost of this system is much less than other topologies.

3. The installation, and administration process of this topology is very simple and easy.

5. Bus topology is the most suitable for a smaller network.


6. Generally, coaxial or twisted pair cables are used as backbone cables in the bus topology, so the data speed is up to 15 Mbps.

7. If any one device is affected, then the whole system will not be affected.

8. The troubleshooting and maintenance are simple and low cost.

9. The adding or removing of any device does not affect the total system.

10. It is the easiest method to connect computers or networking devices for communication or data transmission.


Disadvantages of Bus Topology


1. The whole system depends upon a single backbone cable as all devices are connected to it. So if there is any fault occurs in the backbone cable the total system will be affected.


2. Bus Topology cannot be used for a large network.

3. An additional device such as Terminator is required at both ends of the cable to dump the signals.

4. The addition of new devices is limited which means a huge no. of devices cannot be added.

5. Its performance, speed, and efficiency decrease when the number of devices connected to it increases.

6. In this topology, security and privacy are very low because all the devices are connected to a single cable, and the data flows in one direction only. They all receive the data from a common source.
