Electric Geyser Wiring Diagram and Internal Connection

Hey, in this article, we are going to see the wiring diagram and internal connection of electric geyser. We know an electric geyser is a machine that is used to produce hot water and is used in bathrooms. In winter seasons it is used a lot. This article will be very helpful for domestic electricians who service or repair electric home appliances. The main function of an electric geyser is to produce hot water. Basically, the geyser has a water tank. The normal cold water is supplied through the inlet pipeline and stored in the tank. The heating element will heat the water. After the hot water is supplied for use.

Electric Geyser Wiring Diagram

Here, you can see the wiring diagram of an electric geyser with its all internal components.

Electric Water Geyser Wiring Diagram and Internal Connection

The main components of an electric geyser are,
  • A Heater Coil or Heating Element
  • A Thermostat
  • An Auto Cutoff Switch
  • Indication Lamps

Heater Coil or Heating Element

It is the main part of the geyser. The main function of this heater coil is to convert the electrical energy into heat energy so it can heat the water inside the heater. The normal electric geyser used for domestic or home use purposes has a single-element heating coil designed to operate with a 230V AC supply. In fact, it is the most energy-consuming component of the Geyser.

Thermostat

The thermostat continuously measures the temperature of the water. We have to set a temperature by rotating its knob. So when the temperature of the water is below this set temperature, the thermostat will pass the power supply to the heater coil and keep the heater turned on. Once the temperature of the water crosses the set temperature it turn off the power supply to the heating coil and the heater will be turned off. Again when the temperature of the water goes below to the set temperature, the thermostat will close the circuit and restore the power supply.

Auto Cutoff Switch

The auto-cutoff switch is used for safety purposes. When an electrical fault occurs with the circuit and draws a very high current the cutoff switch will cut off the power supply to the thermostat. The cutoff switch has a reset button. So it is tripped or cut off the power supply, this reset button is to be pressed otherwise it will not turn on again.

Indication Lamps

Here two indication lamps are used - 1. Red Color and 2. Green Color

A Green Color indication lamp is used to indicate the heater On purpose and the red color is used for the heater off. So when the heater is in on condition, both of the red and green color indication lamps will glow but when the heater is in off condition only the red color indication lamp will glow. If the auto cutoff switch is tripped due to any fault then both of the indication lamps will be in off condition.

Electric Geyser Internal Connection Description

  • The phase terminal from the three-pin plug is connected to the input terminal of the auto-cutoff switch. The output terminal of the cutoff switch is connected to the input terminal of the thermostat. Also, the output terminal of the cutoff switch is connected to the red indication lamp.
  • The output terminal of the thermostat is connected to the heating coil. The output terminal of the thermostat is also connected to the green indication lamp.
  • The neutral wire from the plug top is connected to the heating coil and both of the indication lamps.
  • The earthing wire from the plug top is to be connected to the metallic body of the geyser.
