There is a huge application and use of tunnel diode in electrical and electronic circuits. Tunnel diode has many important advantages, so they are used in electrical as well as electronic circuits.  Tunnel Diodes are working in the principle of the Tunneling Effect. Tunnel Diode has negative resistance due to the quantum mechanical effect which is called tunneling. Tunnel diodes are heavily dopped diodes. Tunnel Diodes are also called as Esaki Diode.

Tunnel Diode has negative resistance characteristics that mean if the voltage across it increases then the current through it will decrease.
