TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) Applications, Advantages

In simple words, TTL or Transistor-Transistor Logic is a standard method of making logical circuits using transistors. Digital logic circuits are the main basic part of any electronic devices such as computer, laptops, smartphones, etc. A computer CPU has many complex logical circuits inside it. So many transistors are connected to each other in the TTL method to make the logical circuits.

There are different types of logic families or methods are available to make logic circuits such as RTL(Resistor Transistor Logic), DTL (Diode Transistor Logic), CMOS, etc. TTL is a widely used logic family and in earlier days, it used to make most of the electronic circuits. Its switching speed is more than others and provides very high efficiency.

Here you can see the two-input NAND Gate circuit using Transistor-Transistor Logic.

Transistor Transistor Logic (TTL)

TTL family works on voltage 0 to 5V, where the high level is 5V and the low level is 0V. TTL logic circuits take very less power. Generally, a TTL logic circuit takes 10 mW power.  The propagation delay of the TTL circuits is very low, it few nanoseconds.

Transistor-Transistor Logic (TTL) Examples

74 Series ICS such as IC 7404, 7486, 7402 are made using Transistor-Transistor Logic. These are the common examples of TTL.

Transistor-Transistor Logic (TTL) Uses and Applications

1. TTL or Transistor-Transistor Logic is used in Mini Computer Processors.
2. TTL is used in Controller circuits, Display Driver Circuits.
3. TTL is used in low-end programming devices such as remote controls, light controllers.
4. TTL method is used in the microprocessor and microcontroller also.
5. Smaller and low power electronic devices use TTL logic method.

Advantages of Transistor-Transistor Logic or TTL

1. TTL provides very high speed.
2. TTL is more reliable.
3. TTL needs lowe power for any operation.
4. TTL can stack the transistors to make for fast pull up and pull down.
5. TTL circuits are not so complicated.
6. It is very easy to construct and implement.

Disadvantages of TTL or Transistor-Transistor Logic

1. TTL not suitable for high-end electronic devices or this method cannot be used for high-performance processors.

2. TTL cannot be used to make complex logical circuits.
