10 HP Squirrel Cage Induction Motor Wiring Diagram (Using CAD)



Here, we will see the wiring diagram of a newly constructed workshop that is required to fit with a 10 HP 3 Phase Squirrel Cage Induction Motor. The wiring is drawn starting from the energy meter to the motor. So you can see the connection of the induction motor with the energy meter, main control panel, motor control panel, and motor starter. It is a single-line wiring diagram drawn using AutoCAD software.

Here, all three wires and four wires shown in the above wiring diagram come through a cable. Three wires go through a 3-core cable and force wires go through a 4-core cable. Six wires go through a 6-core cable or may use two individual 3-core cables.

Connection Description

  • The 3 Phase Power supply with three phase wires(R, Y, B) and one neutral wire(N) wire comes from the supplier pole to the consumer house.
  • Here, a Supplier's Cutout is shown but it is not so important and not compulsory for all the installations.
  • So a total of four wires of the input power supply entered the energy meter.
  • The output of the energy meter with four wires connected to the TPIC & N Busbar.
  • From the busbar, only three wires were taken(only phase wires R, Y, and B) and connected to a 100A TPIC switch.
  • From this 100A TPIC switch the output(with 3 wires) is connected to a distribution board(3 Way, 415V, 63A).
  • From the Distribution board the three-phase supply with three wires connected to a 63A TPIC Switch.
  • And from this 63A TPIC switch the power supply is connected to the Motor Starter Panel.

DOL started or Star Delta Starter can be used for the 10 HP motor. But it is mostly recommended to use Star Delta Starter above 5 HP Motor. Here, in the above wiring diagram, we have seen the motor starter takes input with three phases only. If your starter panel required all three phases then you need 4-core cables and a TPIC & N Switch instead of a TPIC switch.

  • If you use a DOL starter then only three wires will go from the starter to the motor but if you use a start delta starter then six wires will go from the starter panel to the motor. The three wires can be laid using a single 3-core cable and the six wires can be laid using a single 6-core cable or two individual 3-core cables.
  • For a 10 HP motor two earthing or grounding connection is required so two earthing or grounding connection from the motor is to be connected to the Earth Bus that is already connected to the Earthing.
  • The TPIC & N Busbar, TPIC switches, Distribution Board, and Motor Starter all should be connected to the ground.
