Understand IoT Based Smart Agriculture System with Block Diagram

Hey, in this article we will learn how IoT technology makes our agriculture system smart, intelligent, and automated. The IoT-based automated system is a very emerging technology for smart farming. It helps to monitor our farms from a remote place, and store data for future analysis.

Block Diagram

Here, you can see the block diagram of IoT Based Smart Automated Agriculture System. It will help you to understand the working concept quickly.

IoT Based Smart Agriculture System Block Diagram

As you can see in the above block diagram, the Arduino Board is the main part of the whole system. It takes all the input signals, data, and information through different types of sensors. And after processing, it generates output and applies to the output devices such as Buzzers and actuators, and displays and shares to the remote devices through GSM or Wifi technology.

Remember that here, the Aurdino Board is shown as the main processing device, but there may be other types of processing devices but all provide the same function.

Input Devices

There are different types of sensors and transducers that are used as input devices that sense the state of the physical environment, the status of the soil, and other useful statuses from the farm and send them to the processor. Here are the examples of sensors used in agriculture,

Water Level Sensor

Moisture Sensor: It senses the moisture of the soil and sends data to the processor.

Temperature Sensor: Sense the farm's environmental temperature.

Humidity Sensor

Light Sensor

Gas Sensor

Sound Sensor

CCTV Camera

Humidity Sensor

ATM Pressure Sensor

Fertility Sensor

Output Devices

Output devices are those that perform physical tasks or provide information to the user.

For example,

Display: It helps to user to see useful information in a visual format.

Buzzer: Helps to alert.

Relay Circuit: Is is used as a driver to control external devices or machines such as to start or stop the water pump.

Network Modules

Network modules help to communicate with the processing device(e.g. Aurdino) from a remote device such as a smartphone.

GSM Module: It helps to connect the Aurdino with the INTERNET. So, we can communicate or monitor our farm from anywhere in the world.

Wifi Module: It helps with wireless communication from nearby places and cloud storage.

How the System Works?

For example, we have connected our smartphones through the INTERNET. Now we can see all the status of our farm in a mobile application. For example, we can check if the water level is ok or not. It is possible for the water level sensor. The water level sensor will send the data to the Aurdino and Aurdino will send it to our phone. If the water level is low we give a command to start the water pump from our smartphone. So the Aurdino will receive the command and start the water pump by activating the Relay switch. Again when the water is filled the water sensor will send a signal to the Aurdino, and the Aurdino will send a status to our phone that the water is filled. Now we can give a command to stop the water pump. Through the same process, the Aurdino will stop the water pump.

So, all the sensors and transducers placed on the farm will send the information through the Aurdino. We can monitor and store all the information from anywhere.
