Audio Devices Examples and Their Uses

Here is the list of examples of audio devices,
  • Speaker
  • Headphone
  • Microphone
  • CD Player
  • DVD Player
  • Audio Amplifier
  • Audio Mixers
  • Audio Equalizers
  • AV Receivers
  • Radio Receivers
  • Tape Recorders
  • Telephones
  • Transistor Radios

Audio devices are those that can reproduce, convert, process, or record sound in the form of electrical energy. Audio devices are generally built with different types of transducers, electrical and electronic components, and circuits. Audio amplifiers are built with transistors. As I told you a particular audio device can perform all the operations like conversion, reproduction, recording, and processing. Some examples of these types of devices are Smartphones, iPods, tape recorders, etc. Using these devices you can record your voice or sound and store them to play in the future.

Some audio devices are designed to perform a particular task. For example, a speaker can only convert the audio signal(in the form of an electrical signal) into the actual output sound that we can hear. Similarly, a microphone can only convert sound energy into an audio signal or electrical signal. Audio equalizers or audio mixers only process the audio signal such as noise removal, tone control, etc. An audio amplifier can only amplify the audio signal. Actually, the audio device that performs multiple tasks is built with a combination of different types of single-tasking audio devices.

Now coming to the audio input devices. Audio input devices are those that help to take the audio to a system. We know that sound is a real-world energy. So if we want to take it into the system we need to convert it into an electrical signal. Nowadays, audio input devices come in the use widely. For example, in the automation systems, it helps a lot. You may know we can find anything on Google using voice search. We do not need to type anything.

Some common examples of audio input devices are,
  • Microphone(converts sound into an electrical signal)
  • Soundcard(translates the audio signal into digital form to store it on memory, computers)
  • Electronic Guitar
  • Electronic Drum Pads
  • Electrophone
  • AudioCubes
  • Musical Keyboard
  • Synthesizer

Audio output devices are those that can convert the audio signal available in the form of an electrical signal into actual sound energy. If we see, a complete audio system works in three parts audio input, audio process, and audio output.

Some common examples of audio output devices are,
  • Speaker
  • Headphone
  • Musical Buzzer
  • Earphone
  • Electronic Musical Bell

Generally, in most of the cases, the sound energy is converted into an analog audio signal. Sometimes those analog audio signals are converted into digital signals to process them with a digital processor. After processing again it is converted into an analog signal because the output devices such as speakers can operate with analog signals only. The digital processor helps with precise processing and a wide range of mixing and control with a very fast processing speed.

Examples of Audio Processing Devices are,
  • Audio Mixer
  • Audio Equalizer
  • Amplifiers
  • Stereo Amplifiers
  • Card Readers
  • Audio Player
  • CD Player
  • DVD Players
