What is Addressable Fire Alarm System? Wiring Diagram

There are various types of fire alarm systems available in the market. The addressable fire alarm system is one of them and is used in so many applications. addressable fire alarm system and detection system uses advanced technology and have so many advantages over conventional fire alarm system.

The main objective of a fire alarm system is to detect fire-related accidents and initiate the alarm to alert people. The addressable fire alarm system eliminates the drawbacks of the conventional fire alarm system.

The main difference between an addressable fire alarm system and a conventional fire alarm system is that in the conventional fire alarm system we can not find out the exact number of detectors or the exact location of the accidental place but in the addressable fire alarm system we can find out the exact location of the accidental place.

Basically, the conventional fire alarm system uses analog signals for its operation whereas the addressable fire alarm system uses digital signals for its operation.

If we see the difference in the design, in a conventional system, all initiating devices are connected according to the zone and the notification devices are connected separately to the control panel. On the other hand, in the addressable system, all the initiating devices and notification devices are connected according to the loop.

In the zone wiring, the wire only goes out from the control panel but in the loop wiring, wires go out from the control panel, and again the end of the loop is connected to the control panel.

Addressable Fire Alarm System Wiring and Connection Diagram

Here, you can see the wiring of addressable fire alarm and detection system.

Addressable Fire Alarm System Wiring and Connection Diagram, wiring diagram of addressable fire alarm system

You can see, how all the initiating devices are connected in a loop wiring system. Here, only six detectors are shown but in an addressable fire alarm system, up to 99 detectors can be connected into a loop.

Here also you can after three detectors an isolation module is connected. The main function of this isolation detector is to isolate the faulty part or faulty detectors from the whole circuit so other parts of the circuit can work normally. The isolation module can be connected after three detectors or five detectors or ten detectors, depending upon the installation manager or customer's requirement.

Here, each of the detectors uses DIP(Dual In-Line Package) Switches to generate their address in the digital form of bits. For example, if the accident happened near the heat detector(L1/D3). Then the control panel shows the exact location or number of the heat detector that is L1/D3(Loop 1, Detector 3).

Advantages of Addressable Fire Alarm System

1. Here the exact location of the detector or accidental place can be find out from the control panel.

2. It uses digital signals so the speed and accuracy of the system are very high.

3. The isolation module of this system helps to prevent a part from damaging of the other parts. This feature is not available in the conventional system.

4. Here, the control panel can communicate with each detector individually.

Disadvantages of Addressable Fire Alarm System

1. The cost is very high than a conventional system.

2. There is a very high chance of false alarms.
