10+ Practical Examples of Closed Loop Control System

A closed loop control system is that where all devices or components work automatically and regulate a process continuously without any human interaction. A closed loop control system is also known as a feedback control system because here a feedback signal from the output always controls the input. Anyway, in this article, we are going to know practical examples of closed loop control systems and their working principle. These closed loop control system examples will help you to better understand the concept.

Practical examples of closed loop control systems are,
  1. Voltage Stabilizer
  2. Thermostat Heater
  3. Modern Air Conditioner
  4. Induction Cooker
  5. Electric Iron
  6. Water Level Controller
  7. Automatic Street Light
  8. Smoke Detection System
  9. Automatic Toaster
  10. Motor Speed Controller
  11. Industrial Refrigerators
  12. Servo Motor

Voltage Stabilizer

Voltage Stabilizer is an example of Closed Loop Control System. Here, you can see the block diagram of the voltage stabilizer.

Voltage stabilizer block diagram

You can see here a feedback control system available. It continuously monitors the output voltage. So when the output voltage increase or decreases from a certain level, the feedback system sends a signal to the input circuit, so it can increase or decrease the voltage level to maintain a constant output voltage level.

Thermostat Heater

Here, you can see the wiring diagram of automatic heater control with thermostat.

thermostat heater wiring diagram

This circuit works in such a way that, the thermostat continuously monitoring the temperature. When the temperature goes below a certain level (set in the controller), the thermostat will send a signal to the controller to turn on the heater. When the temperature goes above that level, the controller will turn off the heater.

Modern Air Conditioner

Another important closed loop control system example is a modern air conditioner.
Modern air conditioners works in such a way that it control temperature and humidity automatically according to set and current parameters. It has temperature and humidity measuring sensors. So it continuously monitoring the temperature and humidity of the room. According to it, it turns on the compressor, adjusts the fan speed, etc.

Induction Cooker

The induction cooker is also a practical example of closed loop control system. It has a temperature sensor. When we cooking, we need to set a temperature, so when the temperature goes above the setpoint, it will automatically be turned off. Again when the temperature goes below the set point it will automatically be turned on.

Water Level Controller

The water level controller has a float switch as a sensor and it hanged or placed inside a water tank according to the water level requirement. So when the water level goes down below a certain level, the float switch will send a signal to the controller. And the controller will turn on the pump to fill water. When the water is filled above a certain level, the float switch will send a signal to the controller to turn off the pump.

Motor Speed Controller

Any automatic motor speed controller or servo motors are examples of closed loop control systems. Here, a motion sensor is available to check or monitor the speed of the motor. When the load on the motor varies, the speed also tends to vary but the motion sensor sends a signal to the motor controller through a feedback circuit, so the controller provides additional power to the motor to maintain a constant speed during the load variation.
