### Galvanometer as a Voltmeter

When a galvanometer is used as a voltmeter, a very high resistance is connected in series with it. Then the whole circuit is connected in parallel with the power circuit or load circuit. Here, you can see the circuit diagram below. Also, remember that the range of the voltmeter can be varied by the varying resistance value of the series-connected resistor. Higher resistance means higher sensitivity.

### Galvanometer as an Ammeter

When a galvanometer is used as an ammeter, very low resistance is connected in parallel with the galvanometer. This is called Shunt Resistor. Also, remember that the range of the ammeter can be varied by varying the resistance value of the parallel-connected resistor. Here, lower resistance means higher sensitivity.
