Why all Electronic Devices Works on DC not AC?

Why all Electronic Devices Works on DC

You may observe almost all the electronic devices work on DC, not AC. So you may think about why we use only DC in electronic circuits. Actually, some electronic device also works on AC but most of the electronic devices work on DC. So let's see the reasons.

DC has some important and useful properties for which we use DC in electronic Circuits. The properties are given below,

1. The first important property of DC is, it does not change its polarity which is very useful for DC circuits because there are some components in the electronic circuit that do not work if the polarity is changing continuously.

2. Another important property of DC is, it has a constant value which means the magnitude of voltage does not change with time. As the components of the electronic circuit need a constant voltage, dc is required.

3. We know that in the case of AC, the voltage at a time goes to zero. This is a problem for electronic circuits because if we think deeply the AC naturally do switching or it goes ON and OFF continuously. For example, if an electronic consist of SCR. So in this case, if we use AC, then undesired commutation will happen.

4. There is no power factor in the case of DC. So it is an advantage of using DC.

5. If we use AC, it will create noise, and oscillation in Audio Circuits, and communication circuits.

The properties of the electronic components for which we use DC in Electronic Circuits,

1. We know that the most popular electronic components such as a diode, and transistors are needed biasing for their working. Most of the cases they are connected in Forward Bias which means the positive terminal to the P terminal and the Negative terminal to the N terminal. But in the case of AC, as the polarity is changing continuously, so the biasing also changes Continuously. So the electronic components do not work in AC for the changes in biasing.

2. As DC has a constant value, so we can create any type of oscillating signal from DC using some electronic circuits, but the AC oscillates itself which is why it can not be taken for creating signals.

3. DC can be stored in Batteries, Supercapacitors, etc. But AC cannot be stored. So portable electronic devices must be designed to operate with a DC power supply.

So the conclusion is, As DC is constant so we can use it for different purposes as we want but AC is not constant which is why it cannot be used for different purposes. For this reason, All electronic devices work on DC or we use only DC in electronic circuits.
