The Actual Difference between Electrical and Electronics

Difference between electrical and electronics

The actual difference between electrical and electronics is electrical mainly deals with electrical power generation, transmission, distribution, and even conversion with high voltage and high current. On the other hand, electronics mainly deal with electric current conversion, control, amplification, and modification with low voltage and low current.

From my 10 years of working experience in the electrical and electronics field, I will share my thoughts about the difference between electrical and electronics with you. At the start of the career in the engineering field, almost all the students have a doubt about this topic. So if you early understand and clear your doubts then you can select a perfect and particular field according to your interest.

You will see the major part of electrical is dependent upon the AC and high voltage and high current whereas the major part of the electronics is dependent upon the DC and low voltage. When you hear about electrical, mostly the 440V AC, 230V AC, or 120V AC comes but in the case of electronics, mostly 5V DC comes.

Electrical engineering will introduce you to the basics of electrical energy, how it can be produced, its advantages, disadvantages, and even safety. On the other hand, electronics engineering will give an advanced idea of how you can use or utilize electrical energy in an efficient way, with low power loss, and as much possible work.

Electrical engineering gives the most of the effort to generate, transmit, or utilize the electric power in a simpler way whereas electronics engineering gives the most effort to make the system compact and complex.

You will see that electrical devices are bigger in size, work with much electrical power, and operate with high voltage and current whereas electronic devices are smaller or compact in size, work with less electrical power, and operate with low voltage and current.

Most of the electrical circuits are built with only passive elements such as resistors, inductors, and capacitors whereas most of the electronic circuits are built with both passive and active elements such as diodes, transistors, etc. So in electrical engineering, you will get an idea of the basic characteristics and properties of passive elements. On the other hand, in electronics engineering, you will know the other more precise characteristics or properties of passive elements and will introduce you to the active elements.

Electrical engineering is the main ecosystem of all related to electrical energy. Here, you have to deal with all the devices, machines, and circuits but you go through the upper level of light analysis. On the other hand, electronics engineering is a subpart of electrical engineering. Here you have to deal with a small area of electrical but have to go through a more precise and deep analysis.

In electrical engineering, you will understand the concept of electrical energy in the form of electric current and voltage whereas in electronic engineering you will understand the control of electrical energy in the form of electric current, voltage, electrons, and charge.
