On Delay Timer Connection with Contactor

Hey, in this article we are going to see the Timer connection with contactor. The connection of timer with contactor you have to know when you are going to make motor starter circuit, automatic on/off lighting circuit, etc. Here we will make the connection with an On Delay Timer. This timer has both NC and NO contacts, in fact, every timer has like that. We will make the connection using two contactors to understand the working of both NC and NO. But you can make the connection according to your requirement - only NO or only NC or both NO and NC.
So let's see the connection.

Apparatus Used for this Connection:
  • Three Pole Contactor
  • Single Pole MCB
  • 230V On Delay Timer

Timer Connection with Contactor

Here the steps are given below to make the connection between Timer and Contactor.

Timer connection with contactor, timer and contactor connection

As you have seen in the above figure first, connect all the three phases in input and output. Connect A2 terminals of both contactor and timer with neutral. Connect the A1 terminal of the Timer with any one phase. Here we connected with the 'R' Phase. You can connect with other two phases also that means you can connect with either 'Y' phase or 'B' phase.

Now, short the A1 and terminal 15. Then connect terminal 18 of the Timer to the A1 terminal of the contactor. This connection does not turn on the contactor instantly. When we turn on the timer, by turn on the MCB, the contactor will turn on after the set time. And it will keep turned On until you manually turn off the MCB.

Now the above circuit is for instantly turn on the contactor and it will turn off after the set time. As you see in the above figure connect the A1 terminal of the contactor to terminal 16 of the Time instead of terminal 18. So when we turned on the timer, the contactor will turn on instantly and after the set time of the timer, the contactor will be turned off.

The above connection diagram is to operate two contactors with an On Delay Timer. Here you can see contactor 1 is connected to terminal 16 or NC and contactor 2 is connected to terminal 18 or NO. So when we turn on the Timer, contactor 1 will be turned on instantly and after the set time of the Timer the contactor 1 will be turned off and contactor 2 will be turned on. This circuit is generally used with Star Delta Starter.
