A simple Homemade Audio Amplifier Circuit Diagram (30-40 Watt)

Hey, in this article we are going to see a simple audio amplifier circuit diagram and connection procedure. You can easily make it at your home. This audio amplifier will give you an output of up to 30 to 40 watts and it is suitable to operate with up to 8-ohm speakers. The circuit will operate with a 36V DC Power Supply. As an input source, you can use your smartphone, any music player, DVD player, etc.

The main objective that we have shared in this circuit diagram is to educate you on how an audio amplifier works. When you build this circuit, you will get a lot of knowledge about the practical implementation of electronic circuits.

Audio Amplifier Circuit Diagram

Here, you can see the circuit diagram of an amplifier circuit built with IC TDA2040.

Simple Audio Amplifier Circuit Diagram, Homemade Amplifier

List of Components Used

  • 1 Pcs IC TDA2040
  • An 8-ohm speaker
  • A 36V DC Power Source
  • 2 Pcs 22uf Electrolytic Capacitors
  • 1 Pcs 2200uF Electrolytic Capacitor
  • 1 Pcs 1uF Electrolytic Capacitor
  • 1 Pcs 220uF Electrolytic Capacitor
  • 2 Pcs 100nF Ceramic Capacitor
  • 3 Pcs 22 Kilo Ohm resistors
  • 1 Pcs 20 Kilo Ohm resistor
  • 1 Pcs 4.7 Ohm Resistor
  • 1 Pcs 680 Ohm Resistor
  • Audio Source(music player)

Connection Procedure

  1. The IC TDA2040 has five terminals. The first terminal of the IC (counted from the left side) is the audio input terminal. A 1uF Electrolytic capacitor is to be connected in series with this terminal. Remember that the negative terminal of the capacitor is to be connected to the IC.
  2. The last terminal(fifth terminal) of the IC is to be connected to the positive terminal of the 36V DC power source.
  3. The third terminal of the IC is the negative or ground terminal for all the inputs(audio input, DC source input) and outputs(speaker).
  4. The fourth terminal of the IC is to be connected to the output speaker.
  5. A 2200uF Electrolytic Capacitor is to be connected in series with the speaker.
  6. A series combination of a 4.7 Ohm Resistor and 100nF Ceramic Capacitor is to be connected in parallel with the speaker before the connected series Electrolytic capacitor.
  7. Connect a series combination of 680ohm resistor and 2uF Electrolytic Capacitor between the second and third terminal of the IC.
  8. Connect a 22-kilo ohm resistor between the second and fourth terminal of the IC.
  9. Connect a 220uF Electrolytic Capacitor and a 100nF Ceramic Capacitor in parallel between the third and fifth terminal of the IC.
  10. Connect a series combination of 20-kilo ohm and 22-kilo ohm resistors between the third and fifth terminal of the IC.
  11. Connect the positive terminal of a 22uF Electrolytic Capacitor to the middle joint of the 20 and 22-kilo-ohm resistor. And connect the negative terminal of that 22uF capacitor to the third terminal of the IC.
  12. Connect one terminal of a 22-kilo ohm resistor to the middle joint of the 20 and 22-kilo ohm resistors. Connect another terminal of that 22-kilo ohm resistor to the positive terminal of the series Electrolytic Capacitor already connected with the first terminal of the IC.

Things Remember while building the circuit

  1. Don't apply more than 40V DC to the circuit.
  2. All the connections between components should be accurate as per the above circuit diagram.
  3. The polarity of the Electrolytic capacitor should be maintained properly.
  4. Resistance of the output speaker should not exceed 8 ohms.
  5. A constant DC power supply should be applied to the amplifier. Variable or fluctuating power supply will affect the output of the amplifier.
