Full Wave Center Tapped Rectifier Applications



There are mainly two types of Full Wave Rectifiers which are Full Wave Rectifiers Using Center Tapped Transformer and Full Wave Bridge Rectifier. Here the applications of Full Wave Center Tapped Rectifier are given below.

(1) This type of rectifier circuit is only used where the center-tapped transformer is used. Generally, in earlier days, a full wave rectifier using a center-tapped transformer was used for the battery charger circuits

(2) For high-power applications, center center-tapped full wave rectifier is used to eliminate large voltage drops across the diodes. The high-power diodes are also costly. There is a chance of frequent damage to diodes in high-power applications.

(3) In earlier Transistor Radios, center center-tapped full wave rectifier was used because in those days the cost of silicon rectifier diodes was very high.




Full Wave Bridge Rectifier Applications



Full Wave Bridge Rectifiers are widely used for the low cost of diodes than center-tapped transformers, high efficiency, lightweight, etc. Even full wave bridge rectifiers are used more than other rectifiers.

The important uses of full wave bridge rectifiers are given below.

(1) Full Wave Bridge Rectifiers are used in Mobile and laptop charger circuits.

(2) Full Wave Bridge Rectifiers are used in Uninterruptable Power Supply(UPS) Circuits to convert AC to DC.

(3) Full Wave Bridge Rectifiers are used in our Home Inverters to convert AC to DC.

(4) Full Wave Bridge Rectifiers are used in Televisions, LCD, LED TVs

(5) A Full Wave Bridge Rectifier is used in the Car Alternator to charge the batteries during the running of the car.

(6) In LED Driver Circuits, Audio Amplifier, Radios, and many home appliances full wave bridge rectifiers are used.




Half Wave Rectifier Applications



Half Wave Rectifier circuits are cheaper so they are used in some insensitive devices that can withstand voltage variations. The output average voltage of the half-wave rectifier is less than the input voltage so they perform two works, step down of voltage and rectification. Some important uses of half-wave rectifiers are given below.

(1) Half Wave Rectifier used in low power simple battery charger circuit.

(2) Half Wave Rectifiers are used in Pulse Generator Circuits.

(3) A Half Wave Rectifier is used in signal demodulation circuits.

(4) In the Soldering Iron circuit half wave rectifier is used.

(5) Half Wave Rectifier used in Amplitude Modulation (AM) Radio circuits as a Detector.
