A step-up auto transformer is a type of electrical transformer that can increase the voltage level of an electrical circuit. It is designed to have a single winding, which serves as both the primary and secondary winding. It is called an "auto" transformer because the same winding is used for both step-up and step-down voltage transformations. So, here you can see we have connected the both primary and secondary winding together in such a way that it act as a single winding and steps up the voltage.

Here also we have connected both primary and secondary winding together in such a way that it acts as a single winding. But as we take the output from a short portion of the winding it provides a lower output voltage than the input voltage that is why we called it a step-down autotransformer.

A current transformer (CT) is a type of instrument transformer used to measure electric current. It is designed to transform high currents flowing through power lines or electrical systems into a lower, more manageable level suitable for measurement or protection purposes. The primary winding of a current transformer is connected in series with the circuit carrying the current to be measured, while the secondary winding is connected to a measuring device or protection relay. The current flowing through the primary winding induces a proportional current in the secondary winding, which is then used for measurement or relay operation. Current transformers are commonly used in power systems, electrical substations, energy metering, and various industrial applications. They provide a safe and accurate means of measuring and monitoring electric currents.

So if you want to use a step-down transformer as a current transformer, use the low-voltage coil of the Transformer as the primary coil and connect in series with the circuit whose current is to be measured. Connect an ammeter to the high-voltage side. By calculating the ratio of the transformer you will measure current.
